Scenic Sketches takes heavy inspiration from video game soundtracks and music in media. I wrote the theme's melody several years ago, and after many attempts of realizing it, this one succeeded. Each variation represents a different landscape appropriate in a video game, and some take inspiration from soundtracks, such as Undertale (by Toby Fox) and OFF (music by Alias Conrad Coldwood). I also directly quoted two tracks from the webcomic Homestuck. The first four variations were written from the prompts of rhythm/repetition, slowness, musical borrowing, and birdsong respectively.
